Short description

AEMWEtoGreenH₂ develops materials, components and electrolysis systems for more efficient, durable and cost-effective green hydrogen production. The project combines the development of low-cost non-precious catalysts with the optimisation of membrane-electrode assemblies and their validation in AEM water electrolyzers. It also investigates how water quality affects performance and durability, including the exploratory use of treated wastewater, before scaling the most promising solutions from single cells to a short stack.

Non-PGM Catalysts

Develop efficient and durable HER and OER catalysts without platinum-group metals.

Engineered MEAs

Optimise the integration of membranes, ionomers, catalysts and porous transport layers.

Alternative Feed Waters

Assess alkaline solutions, pure water and treated wastewater as feed options.

Single Cell to Stack

Validate performance and durability from laboratory single cells to a 3-5 cell short stack.
